That was my guess when I saw the AVGG reverse. But the Obv. legend still doesn't quite start right either IMP C P LIC wouldn't really fit. It looks like RIC !

IMP C GALLIENVS PF AVG. As bobby said a bouched legend the letter P was omitted, should read IMP C P GALLIENVS PF AVG.

I think a number of things could be causing confusion here, obviously the missing 'E' in 'GALLIENVS' (worth buying for this alone malamute!).

The original die also has a 'lop-sided' legend, just like this example:
Help-With-Identify....

Notice how squashed the start of the legend is, I have no idea why this should be as I would have assumed this is where the celator would start! Also notice where, on both coins, the 'G' in 'GALLIENVS' is situated in relation to the radiate, very similar.

Finally mals coin has been struck with this legend 'oddity' off the flan making it look unlikely that it (IMP C P) was ever there in the first place.

I guess its just a badly stuck, badly cut, blundered legend coin

I'd buy it

Yep, good example Rooney, it too shows just how early some of these legends start.

Mals coin would probably be recorded as that but with a note to the missing 'E'. Some try to get things like this entered into 'Not in RIC' but that I feel is silly, Mals is not a new coin its simply an error that either escaped the mint without anyone noticing or more likely it was noticed but nobody cared.

EDIT - I think its the square brackets in the page and picture names causing problems, I tried and failed to link to the above pic and eventually had to save, rename and then upload it.

Yup - I think the forum reads them as html code so it screws it up.
