I just downgraded my "Not Mint to Be" set with an AG03 35 San Diego. I also added 4 new ones to my "Gross" 144 set. 35-D Texas, 35-D Arkansas & 36-S Boone all in AU55. Also a 53-S GWC in XF45. I only need 62 to finish that set. Any ideas as to how long that will take.

Also added a G04 Lafayette to that grading set which gives it the 1-2-3-4.

Very nice! It has been a while since I visited your Not Mint to Be set and I have to confess this was my first visit to your "Gross" set.

Well done ... I submit to all that the OP is the proud owner of the best collection of the toughest 20th century type coins ever asssembled.

Ok... that is one of the coolest sets I've seen. Thanks for the link Kelly! I am impressed, having just started to collect these coins, I never realized how much competition there would be for low ball halves. It seems like you find one, and it is a bidding frenzy. (which I usually lose because I can't bring myself to pay more for these than I would for a perfect coin).

Kelly, thanks for posting that link! Looks like there are only a few downgrades left before he has the worst set there could ever be!

Good going!

Great stuff NMTB! Truly the work of a dedicated collector.

Someday, I hope to find a Roanoke in VF/XF that I like. I think it would be nice to exhibit a circulated example of my "local" commemorative alongside my mint state example.

No current plans to pursue anything beyond that, however, no matter how much prodding I get from nickelsearcher.

LOL commens ... we all remain inspired by your informative and educated posts ... perhaps someday we can encourage you to tackle the challenge of a circulated set.

This thread is not complete without a mention of NMTB dedicated efforts to acquire the entire 144-coin classic silver commemorative set in honest circulated collection.

The world-wide community of circulated USA commemorative collectors is a small but tight nit group of folks ...

I commend NMTB efforts to move beyond his already best in the world type set and acknowledge his honest effort to achieve the impossible ...

Check out his 144-coin set progress .. amazing to me as a dedicated collector working diligently to complete the basic type set ...

I am proud to be his collecting friend ... and commend to all his personal collecting efforts to overcome the market challenges of finding these coins.

Only 62 left, Bob, would you ever have thought you could make it that deep into the 144? At the rate of one per year, you should be able to finish it...and imho, would be one of the most difficult sets of classic coin sets to complete, if not the MOST difficult! Keep on searchin'!!

Whoa! I didn't notice the price they were asking. I was focused on the coin itself. That's outrageous!

Just added an AU58 1935-S Texas to the Gross Set (144). Now I only need 51 to complete. :)
