Hello, I know very little about coins, pretty much everything I know I have learned from google today, was wondering if anyone had any insight into these! The camera work is a bit shoddy I guess, took them on my cell phone :( If you need better ones just ask and I will try and get better ones! There is a 1922 dollar coin as well, but it is in..rough condition. 1878 front 1878 back 1879 front 1879 back 1893 "CC" front (Awful shape, figuires the cc is in the worst shape!) 1893 "CC" back My grandpa gave all of these to me, he has been keeping them in a sock (yep) since his war service ended back in the late 70's. Bonus! 1922 dollar front I have no idea what that stain is :( Back

The 4th one is a Peace dollar. The 1893 CC is a good date. All 1893s have low mintage. How did you acquire these?

My grandpa gave them to me earlier today :) He had them in a sock (Well, a couple) that were tied up with themselves. Also a few Ike dollars and such. I do not know much about coins unfortunetly so I have no idea if the 1893 is that rare or not, I just know what I know from googling the dates on them!

Ah nice- there were some more coins to (1930s-1940s dimes,25 of them, and three Ike dollars, a few jfk 50 cent pieces and such) Are these Morgan dollars worth just the silver price? Or is there any special modifers for value? I know they are not in perfect shape (Not sure if this is the right place to ask!)

The 1893-cc should be worth more than the silver value. In Numismedia the value for G-4 is $175. I don't think that this coin makes it to G-4 but it should have some numismatic value over the melt value of the silver.

A very nice gift from grandpa! Despite being in the lowest grade, the 1893-CC is the best coin in the lot.

Quote: there were some more coins to (1930s-1940s dimes,25 of them Tack on another $52 worth of silver or so for those, numismatic rarity and condition notwithstanding. You should have a look see here at some point as well as kitco.com/market for silver prices, which is bought and sold by the troy ounce (31.1 g/troy oz). What years on the JFK's? What ever you do with them, make NO attempt at removing anything from the coins without consultation on your proposed method.

Not a bad start to a collection. Throw them in some protective covering and jump on board.

You've got 3 cheap silver dollars worth about $28 each and an 1893-CC in AG worth about $125.

The Kennedy's are 71-74. And yeah I don't think he chose the Morgan dollars for any reason, he just got them from his dad and kept them, so they were just random.

Quote: The Kennedy's are 71-74. OK, you got face + sentimental value there. All in all between the silver dollars, silver dimes, Ikes and Kennedys, a very nice gift Quote: Not a bad start to a collection. Throw them in some protective covering and jump on board. While I dont know the your intentions with these coins, I think I can speak for all of us: We'd understand if you just want to sell off the lot, however we hope that you at least hang on to it, gift from Grandpa and all. Even better, we hope that you use them as a springboard for your own collection.

Oh I don't plan to sell them, the Morgan's at least. Perhaps the dimes as they are not quite as storable for me and are mostly in quite poor shape. I don't know where or how my great grandpa got them but I know my grandpa has had them since the 60s so it's kind of a family thing :)
I thought the jfks were silver to, guess not!

good to hear, now the question is (no need to answer): Will you be growing your collection? If so, there is plenty of help here on authenticity and value of proposed and made purchases.

I'd be interested to see the dates of the dimes if you have the time to post that.

I am on the road right now, when I get home I can get the dates for you! Just took a quick glance at them, was mostly 30s an 40s iirc! Some earlier ones. He has a bit more he kept, mostly old pennies and nickles. (Old as in 1870-90)
