So I was watching an auction on ebay for a 1934A $10 Hawaii note as an upgrade from HGR (very well known and good currency seller btw), and the final closing price was quite unexpected. The auction ended up at a solid $299 for a XF+ condition $10 Hawaii note. Now is it just me or is that higher than what you guys would expect? I estimated the value at around $200-$230 or so at best. Now HGR auctions usually bring in higher prices, but nevertheless still broke through my estimates. What do you guys think about the closing price? I'm not a currency expert by any means, but that note sure looks nice, even high end for it's grade, no stains, excellent paper, etc. so it went on the high side of pricing, I would expect that of a top piece. I'ts not a crazy price but defintely strong. Prices on good collectible numismatics is moving up yet again.

Nice looking note, but seems high for an XF, even an XF+. Bidding history looks like a couple of people really wanted it and bid it up over the last couple hours of the auction.
I love the temporary wartime issues, unfortunately I am only good for the $1 notes.

There are those off chances that a choice note will command more money than the usual. It happens.

Yes, prices have gone up and so has collector preferences. It is not only TPG grade any more but also eye appeal.

That is a very strong price. However, I am not surprised. HGR notes are always very attractive.

Scarcer notes in nicer shape and with good eye appeal will command a nice premium over more run-of-the-mill notes. In general these are the kind of pieces which are undervalued in catalogs.
