Sorry I was in such a rush between cooking dinner and running out to get the wife I left the ID's to your imagination ! Caracalla and Clodius Albinus. The Clodius is a little weak but the price was well under $100 and I just couldn't resist. Believe it or not the Caracalla came in under $100 also. Still I sold my brother a few pieces to justify it.

The 'green' on Caracalla is troubling to me. Unlike Clodius where is is hard and shiny on Caracalla is is dull and somewhat soft. Not fuzzy and powdery but a small piece came off with my finger nail and it does have that bright green color. Might be part of the reason I got it cheap !

oh, ok....nice pick ups FR!
i thought that first coin may have BD, the green seemed a bit ligther in color. i'd give that the ol' distilled water treatment just to make sure.

Yes FR, these are some nice coins, I love these big bad boys, I would agree with Chris and drop it in some distilled water for a week and rinse, keep it up if its BD you need to get it stop, also don't put it back in the same flip.. very nice coins...

Nice details on those two! The orange encrustation has me intrigued--I haven't seen that before on a bronze coin. Is it perhaps rust from an object that touched the coin?

The orange is unusual and it seems to be associated with the green 'stuff'. I had satisfied myself that it wasn't BD as neither seemed to be other than 'hard' surface encrustation. Before I took photos I applied a small dab of 'Blue Ribbon' which may have softened the green parts after a few hours sitting under a lamp (orange is still rock hard). I am going to 'watch' for a while and maybe try a toothpick to see if more comes off. It was more like a small chip that broke away and not the powder that I usually see on problem coins.

Hmm...given the hardness of the orange encrustation, I'd guess there's some iron in it? It's certainly not a color associated with copper or silver corrosion. I was briefly concerned the orange stuff had sulfur in it, which could break down into sulfuric acid and east eat away the coin.

The orange is very hard and shows no sign of being either 'active' or wanting to go anywhere without a fight. Most of the coin had a dull greenish layer thinly spread on both sides. An overnight application of 'Blue Ribbon' and a morning wipe and buff gave fantastic results. Sometimes less is more. Original Seller Photo - Coin was 'bone dry' After an overnite soak with 'Blue Ribbon' Of course differences in lighting help. But 80% of the green is gone. The rest has been darkened by the solution.

Unfortunately it is very hard to find any. The EPA banned some of the solvents in it. About twenty years ago I discovered that 'Olde English' oil furniture polish was essentially the same thing. I had a bottle and after I got married my wife used it one day .... all of it. I had to start buying it in the coin shop for $7 a tiny bottle. Now I can't find it anywhere.

As far as I know Olde English is still round, though I've never heard of it being use on coins.
