No link, sorry, but the reason is that the gold one was only one of a kind, so that is why I'm wondering what the price of the auction went up to

From the web site Chronology of Canadian Coins at http://coinhistory.info/canada/can2002.htm

September 25, 2003

The Royal Canadian Mint sells by ebay auction two uniquely created $1 gold coins, based on regular production silver collector coins. The 2002 Jubilee $1 coin struck in gold sells for $55,100.01. The 2003 Coronation $1 coin struck in gold sells for $62,600. Both Proof coins are struck in 24k gold. The coins represent the first coins of the Royal Canadian Mint from an intentional single striking each.
