Hello,

years ago while storing some old coins I had, I used some type of masking tape. Yuk!
What is the best way to clean them?

Thank you and cheers!

Be careful with acetone for high grade red cents.
Won't harm your coin.Go for it.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Will acetone work on Pre '67 coins; or is it considered cleaning? What is an acetone bath? I also have some '70's /'60's coins from roll hunting with dirt on them. Will an acetone bath clean the specs of dirt? Rox

I would toss it in a small pool of acetone until the glue dissolves, and then rinse it in fresh acetone before sealing in a holder.

Acetone works great on most coins. As for the dirt, I would have to say unlikely. Acetone dissolves organic materials, such as oils, green slime, plastics, glues, etc, but will not have any effect on dirt and grime such as soils and the like.
