hey Guys !, I just purchased this coin. I'm kind of excited about it because of the obverse and reverse. The rim dings is what I'm worried about if I submit it to PCGS, but we will see.Im new to collecting, and would like your guys opinion on the grade of this. Thanks !

There is a bit of obvious wear on the high points, and small but noticeable rim damage.
AU55.
Nevertheless, an attractive coin, nice patina.

Welcome to Coin Community, itschris. This isn't the coin I'd try to talk you into submitting - it's the Large Motto (common) version. Notwithstanding the dings - and I agree they stand a good chance of getting it a Details grade - I can see an AU50 coin at very best which won't justify the cost of slabbing.

Not that I wouldn't own it.

Details grade only from the big three and EF40 ish from the pictures shown The rim dings and the corrosion would stop it. the right side of the Obv looks slightly porous and I wonder if its a metal detecting find. Its still a nice coin and don't let SsuperDdave fool you its not that common compared to today's mintages with only 19,847,500 minted and a significant number melted in the 1870's I would heed his advice on the slabbing though it would cost significantly more than any added value derived from it being in a slab.
its still a nice coin and would made a great addition to any collection.

I'm in at EF40ish also the rim dings are definte minus and will result in details grade most likely at a TPG.

Thanks guys for the great advice and the grade on it. I've went to a couple of coin shows and there advice for anything is don't slab anything unless its at least BU-MS..anything lower is a waste of money. I guess in not too far off, I was thinking it might be an AU. The details decieved me =). Thanks guys !

I suppose I should feel for all of those fools who wasted their time and money slabbing, oh I dunno, lets say, a 1796 draped busy dollar in VG10

Nice 2 Cent

I believe following Dave's advice will lead down the right path. Don't slab anything where you're gambling a details grade as a potential outcome. You'll just authenticate the face its a certified problem coin, hence, waste of time and money.

However, one day should you come across a choice rarity of any grade and its raw, certainly purchase and send for a slab. Half of me cant stand the TPGs and the other half cant wait to get some coins to them.

good luck either way

XF 45 details, environmental damage (I think that's what they would put for rim dings, right?)

Too low of a value in any case to be investing the slabbing fees.
