The fun of a dateless SLQ... Or near dateless I should hasten to add.

Is this a recessed date type or the earlier pre-25 type? It has three stars on the reverse.

Now to me the last figure looks like it might be a 7. And it's D mint. I found it loitering in my Silver Jar with a few hundred silver Washers... amongst other things.

I think you're right that the last digit is a "7". I think it's a 1917-D Type II. There is a small amount of obverse edging visible that looks like the Type II pattern. If I'm correct, then it is the high relief date.

Which is what I though, I have two others, one dateless P mint (but that one's that bad it could have been any mint you'd never know). I do have a 1925 coin very worn but the relief on that looks different.

What kinda grade would you put this at? I haven't got much idea on these. I went looking across the internet at EF examples for my anticipated 1920s set and I was convinced that none of them were EF, most of them looked VF on a really good day.

I had graded this one AG initially, but if the relief is higher then maybe I'm a bit harsh? Still the lack of a clear date won't do it any favours.

With the date worn, I'd call it AG. If the date were visible, the rest of the details would make it G4 in my opinion.

I have to agree with Susan here and say it's a Type II. I don't have my glasses on but it sure looks like there's a little bit of the chain mail showing on her shoulder. Can't make out any of the date though.... Nice find from the silver jar!

No doubt that this coin is a type 2 as you can see part of the chain mail on the right shoulder of Liberty. Based on the stars I would place this coin later in the series. If you can clearly see the last digit (7) then that would put this as a 1927-D
