Ben Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 4208 Posts	Posted 03/04/2013 4:06 pm Well, I cant say much for authenticity, but I would say at least 2 and 3 are alright judging just by appearance and not by design as I am not well versed in provinincials and greek silver. First is greek, 2nd is roman provinicial, 3rd is greek and 4th is byzantine. But I have never seen a byzantine like it. Report this Post to the Staff
FVRIVS RVFVS Pillar of the Community United States 3443 Posts	Posted 03/04/2013 4:36 pm Second one is 'provincial of Philip II and looks 'good' Third one I believe is a drachm of Dyrrachium (Durres Albania) and again looks 'good' Forth is Byzantine and appears to be silver .... I hesitate to give an opinion on it. Silver Byzantines are not common and I know little about them. The first one definitely looks to be Greek with a Griffon (Sicyon ?) FVRIVS is correct that it is Philip but I'm not 100% sure if its I or II, its very probable its II. The obverse legend is: M IOVΛ ФΙΛΙΠΠΟC K The reverse could be blundered I think it says: AGammaKVPANΩN but it should read ANKVPANΩN It was minted in Phrygia Ankyra and the reverse shows Tyche holding a rudder and cornucopia. I'm guessing its quite rare but have no idea of value. Report this Post to the Staff
