Hi, Can anyone give me a hint as to the grade of this coin?
Marked UNC but could be MS and would this coin be considered "RD or RDBR" ?
Thanks

It doesn't look RED to me, and better pics are needed to decide if it is UNC.

I can't tell if it is uncirculated but I would consider it brown from the post pictures. It would be helpful if you could get better pictures.

(I am not sure if it was a typo but UNC and MS are essentially the same thing. UNC = Uncirculated, MS = Mint State )

Nice coin but from what I see of the reverse it's not MS, also appears brown.
Get better pics out of the holder. (staples are rusty anyway)
Rest in Peace

With Upstate. Looking at the rusty staples and the photo of the coin in the old 2X2 this coin needs to be freed with a better picture after being in prison.
To start, this looks like a real good "WE."
Looks red but R/B in picture. IMHO

I believe this coin was cleaned the color looks off. A natural progression of Red to Brown color would look more like my avatar coin (High grade 1864LM MS66RB). At a TPG it would most likely details grade for the scratch on the obverse through the shield and the tiny divots or surface damage on the reverse beyond the cleaning. It might reach UNC details, as the shield looks wear free and there is no real signs of wear I can see right off. The way the OP describes it - it sounds like he/she has not purchased it and it's at a shop or an auction. I'd pass myself, (and I buy almost all 2¢), unless there is a sign of an RPD or DDO. If I was buying (and I'm not) I'd personally pay no more than $42.00 for this coin on ebay.

Hi All,
Thanks for the input on this coin. The coin belongs to the collection of my late Father-in-law. He collected coins from the 50s to about 1996 so this coin was bought quite a while ago.
He paid $30 for it.
Westcoin, you have a good eye for color. The white balance on the camera was a little off, but not much. This forum limits the file size so posting a larger image is difficult.
I have taken it out of the flip and made some new pics. Hope the resolution is better, there are two taken with flash because they give better detail and one with the background white to give a better idea of color.
CoinKelly, I am aware that UNC is MS, I meant to say AU or MS. I had originally given it an
AU-55
The coin appears to be MS but with considerable scratches and bag marks. There is no more apparent wear on the "WE" than on the other letters in the motto.
There is a peculiar scratch on the shield. The scratch runs across the middle of the shield but is only in the low areas between the vertical lines. Could this be a die mark?
Thanks all for your help, I'm still learning, the collection has about 2000 coins from just about everywhere. Up till now I've been concentrating on the US coins. There is a lot to learn !
Thanks again to all.

I have a tough time distinguishing high AU from MS though pictures (not just yours, most pictures) but my feeling is that it is not MS. The leaves on the obverse are most of what is pushing me down from MS.

I really like the cracks on the obverse - very cool!
