Wow, that's pretty intense. Even APMEX is out of many of their 90% silver bags (although they still have $100 face value bags in stock). Fortunately, however, Goldmart still has plenty of the 100-ounce silver bars I love so much, and the premium hasn't gone up recently.

One dealer I frequent has two customers who regularly come in twice every day and buy up all the 90% he has. I think he charges like 10% over melt. The only 90% ever see there when I walk in is what he buys over the counter from other customers while I'm there lol

I can usually get all I want for close to spot though most of the time its $20-$50 face. I have been loading up on VF or better Mercs at close to spot as they always seem to do feel on ebay.

I can't wait for silver to go up again. It's been around $28.50 for weeks now. Great for buying, but not if you are trying to sell silver. I've been trying to offload some 40% halves I found roll hunting for months, but I can never find a good way to get the price I want. Anyone have any good ideas on where to sell $90 in 40% silver halves?

jlgaudlitz95,
IF you have over $1000 worth of silver 40%, try Ampex.

Not much help... I only have about $100 worth. Would anyone around here be willing to buy them? I was hoping to sell them for $5 each, but that was when silver was still $35. Do you think that $5 is a good price for a BU 40%? If not, what is the going rate?

I think you would be very lucky to get $5 for a BU 40%. Truth is they are the absolute hardest silver to unload in my opinion.
Spot per is $4.25 per coin so I would think if you could get $4 clear per coin you are doing pretty good.
I'm always buying silver though the price in comparison to spot depends on the coin. I also do many trades if you are interested in trading up in to some 90% or .999 fine.
i would say scrapper the junkier ones and save the BU coins.

Check for varieties before you sell it!

Yes, it seems many dealers either run out or pull 90% silver from their available for sale when silver decreases in price. I read an article on this just the other day stating how demand isn't relected in the spot price and 90% is hardly available. I'm not in the market right now but will check with my local shop to see if he has anything available. He has throughout the past 'shortages' over the past few years. Lucky for me he only charges 3percent over spot and you can purchase any face value you like from 1 item to whatever (I assume he has some type of limit but I'v never reached it!)

It's not me buying up all the 90% silver these days. I have some of that but have been buying silver and gold Maples plus some ASEs lately. Some of the best 90% I have are several rolls of proof Statehood Quarters... like shiny little silver mirrors, they are.

All of the half dollars are BU, and I checked for the varieties I know of. Does anyone have a list of 40% varieties? I want to make sure I don't miss any.

Jlgaudlitz95, I have sold many 40% Kennedys, I come from a time when at $50 silver, you couldn't give 40% away, they were "dirty" and the Hunts wanted .999... I have found that the best sell prices are at the shows...and I have listed 40% on Craigslist at 75% spot and they sat there for weeks.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Coin shows are a rarity in San Antonio. Maybe I can trade them for some 90% junk silver around the forum, and sell it on ebay or to a coin store. Thanks for the info, fistfulladirt.
