I had it happen to me with a 9v and some keys in my pocket so any metal will work. Thought it was gonna catch on fire!

I had one of those $5 chinese loupes that you get on ebay that take 3 watch batteries. I was using it all the time, then I switched it on and it went *POP*
The middle of the 3 batteries had exploded and got pretty hot. It was cheaper to just buy a whole new one than get even one more battery, so I tossed it.
Nothing bad happened there, but if it were in my eye at the time I could have had a nasty surprise!

p.s. ... I totally check 9 volts with my tongue.. button batteries too. How else would you do it?
