I have a lot of common coins that need to be disinfected. I am very sensitive to germs/bacteria and feel sick when I handle the coins. I can't stand all the grime! I also have severe chemical sensitivities and allergies. Does anyone have any suggestions of organic cleaning ingredients? Maybe vinegar or essential oils? I just need them to feel clean, and since they're nothing special, I don't have to worry about losing any value.

Well, vinegar and essential oils are in fact chemicals. They are also very harsh cleaners that will devalue any keepers you may find.

IMO, the best thing to do is put them under running tap water for a good rinse if they bother you.

If you want to take the notion of chemicals to the extreme, you drink the chemical also known as di-hydrogen monoxide from the tap. The air you breathe and even YOU are chemicals.

Get to the store and purchase some Distilled water. Rinse your coins in that. Should not harm the coins but make sure you blow dry them with a hair dryer.
I well know how you feel. I had Chemotherapy and during and after I was warned by the Doctors and Nurses not to touch any money if I didn't have to. Money caries all sorts of STUFF. If you think about it, how many people use a washroom to do their thing and never wash their hands. Then touch their money. How many pick their noses and then pay for something with that sticky finger. How many people drop coins in almost anything and then spend them. And lots of other similar things.
Now that I think of this, I may stop collecting coins.

My good man, I NEVER pick my nose. I may occasionally strum it but I never pick it.

@tempy22---If you're unusually sensitive to germs/bacteria and feel sick when you handle coins, you should definitely stay from coin roll hunting!

The endless harvest of hairs--both straight and curly(oh, ICK!), and in all colors--is ghastly and I don't even want to think about the unseen contagions
we CRHers subject ourselves to every time we bust another roll open.

I think one of the little-publicized benefits of CRHing is that it keeps your immune system beefed up to the max and in peak cold/flu/virus-fighting trim.

At any rate, I think you might do well to wash your hands and then use hand sanitizer both before and after you handle coins. Good luck with it, though!

I agree with a distilled wash. Soak them for a day - this will also deionise the coins. then, rinse with distilled water and blow dry.

If that doesn't do it for you, then alcohol hand gel would be in order but you'd have to do the distilled water thing immediately afterwards to avoid any untoward effects to the coins.

I got a couple of kilos of mixed world coins a couple of years age for the Grandkids to muck about with.
These were prety grotty so I simply put them in a plastic bucket and added boiling hot soapy water and gave em a bit of a stirr.
the amount of gunk that was left in the bucket was quite surprising.

These were all circulated coins so I imagine that a simple wash in hot soapy water did them no harm and got the nice and clean.

He may also be suffering from a nickel allergy. Some people actually do become sensitive to the metal and can develop rashes or feel ill after handling item containing Nickel.
