Hello,

I wanted to firstly identify the correct date of this coin then determine if the 3rd or 4th digit of the date appears to be doubled or an over-date etc.

Please opine on any aspect of this coin including the value.

Thanks,
mdpmedia

That design was made in silver 1932-1951.

The date looks like 1932

or maybe 1937 that took a hit on the 7

A couple of comments to opine would be to say that

a) the difference in price between the 1932 and 1937 is significant per the attached NGC world coin guide pricing chart and

b) it appears that the 4th digit at about 10 o'clock looks like it's either split or over-dated.

Any opinions on these comments including the coin's value in its current state if its either a '32 or a '37?

It may take a side-by-side comparison with a known 1932 coin or the image of a 1932 date.

I wonder if you could find a 1937 date for the same type comparison.

The experts are probably sleeping about now, so they may drop by later.

Hey,

The most recent gold-tinted photo (located at the very top of the comparative grouping of dates' photo) of a 1937 sold for about $ 291 at:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lucernae-At...047675.l2557

2-1/2-Escoudos-Portugal:-Date,-Variety-?

Also notice that the the top portion of the '7' shown in this 'SOLD' ebay URL appears to have some curvature compared to the lower gray-tinted photo of the other '7'.

Incidentally, the ebay seller of the gold-colored 1937 photo has over 18,000 sales with 99.8% Positive feedback...

Could mine possibly be a yet-to-be-discovered '2' printed over a '7' or visa-versa?

Also factor in the vertically-orientated, left-sided segment connected to the top horizontal part of the '7' in all of the photos excluding the known 1932 photo on the top right.

Any suggestions?

great comparison of the dates

sorry to say, but I still think its a 1932, and I can't see any over-dates.
In hand, it may look differently.

I collect overdates--not from Portugal--but it's hard to tell from pics if there's anything.
