Looking for some advice on my White's Eagle Spectrum. I obtained it as a gift from a 94 year old friend of mine. Seeing how the battery had saw better days, I finally ordered the C-battery replacement module last week from Whites.

Now, it the power source will primarily be rechargeable C-batteries.

I have had it in my front year and found a quarter. Now, I am planning on taking it to an older church yard I know. I have both the wide detector ring and the deep detection ring. Also, I will probably be using the presets seeing how I am in the learning mode.

Any advice or tips for a newbie?

Congrats on the new detector Ken, my first White's was a Coinmaster II which I bought back in 1977, I was 15. That machine had 2 seperate battery packs if I remember correctly, and more knobs and whistles than I knew what to do with!
First thing I do with a new detector is run it over my "coin garden" to test depth and signal.
I try to leave public and private property neat as I can, I dig a horseshoe-shaped plug using a hand digging tool. I also use a small drop cloth to lay the soil on. Makes a BIG difference in the quality of the finished soil plug.
Good luck at the church yard, I dug my first 1800's Morgan dollar behind a church on a picnic site that had been detected by many for years.

Thanks for the advice on the "coin garden". The church I mentioned earlier is mine, but it was built in the 1930s if I recall correctly. It probably has three acres of which I would say 1.5 are pure grass.

Over the years, there have been many homecomings and events on the grassy areas. So,I plan on taking the detector and seeing what kinds of signals I receive. Could be some nice stuff to be found.

I have had my eagle for about 20 years, they are a great machine and the pre sets are terrific.

once you run the area in the coin jewelry mode run it again in the relic mode you might be surprised by what you find.

I have found no weaknesses in the machine and have found coins up to 10 inches deep with the presets.

use the head phones some signals may be missed with outside noise in your ears.
