Going to upgrade this season on a MD (general purpose) Want to do it just once to last me a while before my final upgrade in a few years. (minelab) Ace 350 or ATPro ? I know the Pro is about $200.00/$250.00 plus more but is it really worth the difference overall. Also Teknetics line in that price range. Thanks.

Read all the on-line reviews that you can muster. My ML Explorer 2 has been very faithful to me, but is heavy as can be, and I'm tiring of it. I'm in the market myself, and am looking at the ML e-trac,($1,500 and 5 lbs), XP Deus ($1,800 and 2.5 lbs), and the ML CTX ($2,400 and amphibious). Decisions, decisions...

I debated between these two models for a long time last Fall. The biggest benefit of the AT Pro I saw was (obviously) the better electronics, but also the waterproof aspect. Being caught out in a rainstorm from time to time, my mind would be more at ease having a detector that was made to be used in water. However, there's quite a bit higher price tag associated with that.
Ultimately I waffled back and forth between the two and didn't make a final decision...

By the way, I emailed back and forth with the owner of the following website during my research. He was awesome to "talk" with and had the best prices on new detectors, hands-down: http://www.bigboyshobbies.net/

Thanks all for the info. Isn't the 350 also submersible ? (all the way)like me sometimes out there:) Will check out that link too. Also, about the Teknetics line in that price range. Anyone own one ? Pro's/Con's

You cannot plunge the "brain" below water. The ATPro is fully submersible, up to 10 feet underwater. They have a special headphone connection that is watertight and the "brain" is waterproof. Just make sure you have waterproof headphones if you plan on your head going underwater as well!

Well, that narrows it down, thanks. Was not planning on going in over my head but good advice on the phones though just in case :)

I should also mention, Garrett has some good videos that give overviews of their models. Don't forget that the ATPro has many benefits electronics-wise as well. You're not just paying an extra $200-300 to be able to take it underwater.

Get the AT Pro over an ACE 350 - absolutely no question in my mind.

Quote: Get the AT Pro over an ACE 350 - absolutely no question in my mind. Could you elaborate and/or give a review explaining your recommendation? The 350 seemed like a no-brainer upgrade from the 250, but I still struggle with the additional cost jump from a 350 to the ATPro. Thanks!
