In today's nickel boxes, chances of finding Half Dimes are just a bit below 0.

Half Dimes are not the same size as a dime or nickel so you would not find them in those rolls, not to mention the fact that they have not been minted for the last 140 years. A Shield nickel could potentially be found in a roll of nickels but the chances of that happening are slim to none, the only way one would get into circulation is by someone deliberately spending it.

And that's not easy, I tried and couldn't get the cashier to take a Shield nickel. Never tried spending a Half Dime.

Wow! What was the approximate age of the cashier? Not that it should make any difference, just curious.

All of the cashier's I've talked to about old coins would have accepted a Shield nickel gladly and thought of me as a fool for spending it for face value.

She was probably in her fifties (This was about twenty years ago). She wouldn't believe it was a US coin. After all she had never seen anything like it before and she had been a cashier for a long time.

I agree that chances of finding them while roll searching are slim to none. Those ebay sellers that are selling those types of coins on the end of the roll didn't really find the rolls that way, they placed them there and I am sure it will confuse others into thinking they have a chance of finding a dollar gold coin in a US Cent roll but it will never happen in the real world
