Marti - Is there an ordnance survey map for your pockets?!

And £20?! This thing has very little to it but £20 is more than I expected - its only 8mm by 10mm and perhaps a mm or 2 thick! excuse me while I work out how much per square inch that is. Cleaning did not do this one much help unfortunately and I might redirty it to bring the detail back out.

EDIT - hahah, while I was writing 2 other marcians got posted! Nice to see them and a really nice on you got there Marti.

Ben $20, not 20 pounds. But yeah they aren't cheap for what you get.

That is a real nice one from an uncleaned lot! Now go find yourself a Johannes! :)

A small bit of maths on Marcian came out to $190m for 1m^3 of marcian monogram coinage - or $3100 per cubic inch.

RVF - What kind of thing are you thinking? Ill PM you to continue, dont want to break any forum rules.

Here is how I keep track of what Roman Imperial rulers I need by using a grid at Tantalus Coins.

http://www.tantaluscoins.com/coins/grid263.php

I have 61 according to the grid, it is counting Anastasius I which usually is considered Byzantine.

I recently obtained a really rare one, Mariniana for relatively cheap price which fills a very rare one that I had not thought to obtain. It's #128 rarity rank. Probably wouldn't have found it if I wasn't using that grid because I do a search in the market for everyone ruler I don't have.

Gil - Ill look into it, but my current spreadsheet works pretty well. No pictures though. It serves its purpose.

What I really want is an album with a space for each official ruler so I can view the coinage as it changes. That would be good. The cost is just too great though - I could get another 100 coins for a less price.

When I buy a Roman I try to buy one with a different portrait or reverse to those I own but that is easy because I own so few...I can kind of see the attraction in collecting portraits but I have to say that to me it is pointless if you cant acquire a good example.

Recently I have been looking intent on buying an Allectus, but I simply cant find one in budget which is in decent enough shape to be worthwhile. Therefore I haven't bought one.

I made a definitive decision to try and collect quality over quantity recently, but if you make it your goal to collect each portrait then try not to accept second best, the main thing is that each coin you buy is a pleasure and if you are looking at it saying "this is junk I must find a better one" then it is probably not worth owning in my opinion.

Of course we are all different though and I wish you good luck :) It would be a massive and costly achievement.

David, unrepresented reverse types also bear a lot of weight for me when obtaining new coins.
