I picked this note up over the weekend, it is in fairly good condition and I think I got a good price.

I just can't find a whole lot of information about these notes like how scarce they are and a definitive source for value.

If you have experience with these notes I would love to hear any information you might have or a good reference book I could pick up.

A good reference book would be Charlton's Canadian Bank Notes.

It is pricey compared to their other catalogues but would be useful.

Another alternative is to post pictures of your note in the Canadian Paper Money Forum. They have a "What's it Worth" thread. Someone from there would likely have experience with this type of note to give you better guidance.

Hi John, Nice note..

Canadian Banknotes should be along pretty soon to give you an idea about your note.

Hi John517

Looks like VG is 250, F is 375 and VF at 700. From the 7th edition Charlton Canadian Bank Notes.

Thanks for the feedback. I really wish Charlton's Canadian Bank Notes wasn't so expensive.

Nice looking note.

I don't know too much about Chartered bank notes, so I sent one of my friends (who is an expert on them) an email. I will post his reply here.

Quote:
The Dominion Bank started in 1869 and issued its first notes in 1871. It amalgamated with the bank of Toronto in 1955 to become the TD bank which we now know.

The 1931 $5 has two signature types but no premium is given to any particular signature. Prices for vg, fine and vf are as follows (250, 375 and 700) respectively.

I would say your note is in the VG+ range.
