21 And 22 US Silver Dollars W. Inverted Obverse

jrtk New Member Canada 10 Posts	Posted 03/11/2013 8:55 pm Hey everyone, my grandfather recently passed away and there was a significant amount of coins left to us. For the last couple months, I have been going through and indexing what was there and thought I was finished until alas I found two more boxes of coins. I'm not too sure exactly what these are both worth but I have taken some moderate quality pics of each. We have a pair 1921 and 22 US silver dollars. Both of their obverse and fronts are inverted so I know that usually means a misprint. The 1921 Silver dollar is in a bit better shape than the '22. If anyone would be able to give a little history or evaluate these coins it would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if we're going to sell as of now but any guidance would be great. denco7 Pillar of the Community United States 2543 Posts	Posted 03/11/2013 10:07 pm A 1921 Morgan dollar and a 1922 Peace dollar. Both in EF/VF condition. Pictures are kind of fuzzy. 1922 is the most common year of the Peace dollar so probably a few dollars over melt value. The Morgan appears to be a Denver minted Morgan. The 1921 was the only year that the Morgans were ever minted in Denver, so a collector might pay a premium for that one. Both coins are 90% silver approx. .7735 oz. All U.S. coinage is ( inverted ) it is not a misprint. Coinage that is not inverted obverse to reverse are designated Medals. Edited by denco7 03/11/2013 10:18 pm Report this Post to the Staff
jgfindring Rest in Peace United States 1380 Posts	Posted 03/11/2013 10:15 pm All U.S. coins have that orientation, if spun rather than flipped, the reverse seems upside down. It is called "coin orientation" as opposed to "medal orientation" where the obverse and reverse both have the top in the same place, which I believe most Canadian and British coins have. Bryan1315 Bedrock of the Community United States 14454 Posts	Posted 03/12/2013 11:50 am Unlike a lot of foreign coins that use the metal orientation on their coins the US uses a coin orientation which has the Obverse and Reverse turned 180 degrees from each other Report this Post to the Staff
