Hi All,

Is anyone out there sick and tired of checking on ebay auctions for 1943 Steel Pennys and wondering if they are replated? I am interested in getting a couple of sets (P,D & S) but so leary of what is replated and what is not. Of course I asked the sellers and most now say no. I need a reputable seller that I dont have to second guess.

Oh I also learned that the ebay auctions that state the steel pennys being offered are from the Littleton company and are a bit shiny they are indeed replated. Sorry for the Venting.

Hmm, sometimes you can easily tell. If the coin looks funny like the hair lines, wheat, or beard then it's most likely done over. I have like 20 P's all are rusting though. But having them this way looks cool and I know they weren't done over.

The best thing to do would buy a Steel penny from a coin dealer. They can be trusted and this way you can hold the coin in your hands.

Perhaps, I been looking at the links you got posted below but I am not sure if they done over or not. I will try and show you the best one.

Here's a safe one to view:

Hi John, if you'll send me your address I'll send you out a PDS set of steel pennies. No strings attached, I got these from an old gentlemen nearly 30 years ago. I tried to email this to you but I'm too new to the community. I understand that however..

Don't know if you can email me back, if not post here on the forum and we can figure something out. I don't want you to post address on the forum. Maybe the moderators can help.

Anyway, these are circulated but in decent shape, they're yours if you want them, just let me know.

I like John's idea of buying that set on cheapslabs.com. If you don't know how to spot the replates, it's best to forget buying on ebay.... it's filled with them.

Hey SRS,

Thank you for your offer but I will pay for it. I wish there was a.way to see pics of them. I'm not sure about posting email addresses into a thread. I will find out.

Thanks John

John, I'd really like to do this. I already have a set and it would make me happy to provide a set to you. At least you'd have these and you can continue searching for those 'perfect' examples. As I stated earlier these are circulated cents, not picture perfect but nice.

Please accept them as this community has helped me and I'd just like to pass some good karma on to others. Let me know what you find from the moderators and I'll get them into the mail for you.

I would say if you are looking for raw coins buy from a seller with high feedback who specializes in coins as they would be the most knowledgable and have the most to lose if they were peddling replated cents.

Beware of sellers who have 50 sets listed at one time of "BU" steel cents as they mostly have bags of replated cents.

^Yes, Jack is right. If you want raw ( means not graded by third party) then buy from someone with about 10,000 feeback or 95% or higher.
