I pulled this from roll hunting the other day its a 1945s war nickle except it is SO SHINEY! the last 2 pics below are the best, but I took a few other with a normal nickle beside it so you can see how shiney it is. My question is - is this a War nickle made out of nickle instead of silver? I weighed both of the pictured coins and they were exactly the same - 5g. sorry some of the pics are bad, but the coin is blindingly shiney - literally.

Overall it looks pretty worn... Maybe somebody plated it?

With all the lack of detail I'm on board with a chrome plating. The plating can also mask the coins detail so it may not be worn.

i can't really get better pictures because of the light reflected off of it. its either no light and kinda of dark like the first 3 pictures or using light and super shiney - both of which omit details. I thought it would be plated too - but how much would the plating add to the weight? again - its 5g which is the weight of a normal coin made out of nickel.

Looks like someone buffed the coin.

Possibly dipped/rubbed on mercury?
That would also make it very shiny.

It looks like one of those polished/plated coins you can get in those prepackaged "coins of WWII" issued sets

Guys... if the coin was re-plated it would weight more. He said the coin is 5g. So therefore the coin must have been cleaned up pretty good.

I would have to disagree. You can certainly electroplate a coin without adding to the 5 g weight to one significant digit.

That, and if the coin was lighter before the plating because it was heavily worn (as most silver nickels are) the plating may have added some weight, but all that did was bring it closer to its original weight.

I certainly hope nobody would do that, talk about a health hazard.

This coin has simply been electroplated. :-)
Rest in Peace

I agree. It's plated, buffed or someone (gasp!) put Mercury on it.

I found one of those once. I assume it's plated or polished for some sort of "collectors" set.

As stated repeatedly, this is a plated coin.
