Another one of the ones I bought back with the others I've posted recently, I've just been having trouble getting good shots of this one compared to all others.. I dont know why...

Anyways these photos do this coin no justice at all, the details sharper in hand, for some reason they don't show as sharp in the photo. And the color is better without the USB lights right on it but I couldnt get a good pic like that.

I think this coin has a very weak strike... I dont know too much about these, but the "B" in liberty is VERY weakly struck... its missing in the middle, its not wear.. its just not there... weak strike? What do you guys think of her? I love it! from these photos I'd say it looks VF, but in hand I'd say easily EF.. I need to work on my photo taking skills more than anything, for some reason some coins I can get good... others not so much at all. Anyways, I wish you could all see it in hand... it looks sooo much better.

Looks better than the 2 I have in my type set.

I'm jealous

I didn't have my 1860 O at the time I took the pictures as it was the last coin I needed to finish it so I'll have show the photos from the seller not that she was a looker to begin with but has a little character.

If Seated dollars weren't so expensive I'd love to pick up a few more.

First off, it's real! Always a good start. Next I think the missing center portion of the B in Liberty may be due to a chipped hub not strike or wear.

Did you notice the evidence of hand work on the reverse die where they hand cut the red stripes into the shield and in several cases slipped and the stripe extends up into the horizontal stripes of the blue field. on some of the seated liberty series they use these slips to identify individual rev dies.

Thanks guys! I love it, was definitely happy to get it. I paid a bit under $450 for her, it was a great price IMO. It definitely looks better in hand, I'd place it at EF-40.. But again, for some reason, the pics don't show it well, compared to in hand.

Jack- nice dollars! The '66 looks like it has a bloodstain on it, most likely just toning, but imagine? In someones pocket while at war, or a gunfight? I wonder how long ago the '60 was vandalized? 1800's? 1900's 2000's? Who's pocket were they in and what stories could they tell?! That's one of the main reasons I love old coins so much.

Condor101- ya a chipped hub would make sense, definitely would. And thanks for that info, I did not know they were hand cut nor to look for the stripe extentions and that die's could be matched that way! Yes, on the reverse shield you can see the vertical lines extending into the horizontal ones. If your looking at the pics the 10th and 11'th down you can see the lines the best. On the colum on the far left (the eagles right) going vertically into the horizontal lines, one extends to the 4th line, the next 4 also extend into the horizontal lines but not as far up. Even under a loupe and the USB cam I don't see any on the last colum (from our left to right) though. Where would I find the info to match these up?

I'm not sure if the information has ever been gathered into one place for the dollars. I've seen some good work using the shield stripes for the smaller denominations but the mintage of the dollars were usually so low that they seldom needed more than one or two die pairs for most issues. Probably the first place I would go searching would be in the back issues of the Gobrecht Journal. Might also make a good survey article for the Journal.
