G4 might just make a push for G6.

Excellent! It is graded as a G-6, despite part of the reverse rim being worn. My theories are 1. rarer coins get the benefit of a higher grade when on the bubble. 2. The obverse is a strong 6, and the reverse is a "5", so net a 5.75 ->6 (from the argument above). 3. If you use 4 x magnigication, the rim does not touch any of the lettering (close-but no cigar). 4 Finally, there are some details on the eagle, including a few letters in E P U.

BTW, I have seen examples of PCGS 06s that are just as bad in terms of the wear of the denticles and other devices.

IMHO, it is a G-4 but I am not surprised that it got a slight bump because it is a key date. Personally, I would like to see stronger definition in the leaves and jawline for a G-6. Here is one that I feel is about right for a G-6: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...5&lotNo=3613 Even though I feel it is slightly overgraded, it is still a very nice coin and worth owning if the price is right.

Yes, I believe it got the G-6 because of the reasons I listed and also its NGC, although I have seen some PCGS G6 examples (with CAC beans also!) that are poorer.

I added to the Sheldon scale rant in the other forum as to why there is no G-5 used, yet it right there on paper.
