I have the following 3 sets, and I know very little about them. They are all in plastic sleeves (as issued by the mint?).

BURUNDI MEDALLIC SET 4 COINS 1966 (the ones with the leader that was overthrown). I'm not sure if this is a mint set, or as I have been told perhaps a fantasy set.
GERMAN MINT SET 8 COINS 1969
ITALY MINT SET 8 COINS 1968

Is there a good online source for researching these sets?
I can post pics if needed.
Any info, good sites for research and values would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Get a copy of the Krause World Coin Catalog 1901-2000. You can probably get one at the library, or interlibrary loan it. At the back of every country is a section for sets (if that country issued any coin sets). If your sets were issued by the respective goverments you should be able to find a *very* rough estimate of how much they are worth.

If your sets are not listed and are not in government packaging, then you need to look up each coin individually to get a price. I would then check with ebay and find your coins/sets there. The filter your listings to completed auctions to see what prices they are selling for.

If you find that you have a set put together out side the mint then you can search for individual coins here: http://en.numista.com/

I have Krause and I use Numista. I also have the other book that lists the coins not listed in the Krause book (forgot the name, I just got it).
All sets are in government packaging but I'm not sure about the Burundi 4 pc. set. It has no markings. I've heard it is a fantasy set.
Thanks for the info.

The German one will be a proof set, from the Hamburg (J), Karlsruhe (G) or Stuttgart (F) mint. Price is, very roughly, around €80.

sjh241: Guess I wasn't giving you any information you didn't know.

For what it is worth I checked for your Burundi set last night when I got home and couldn't find any information on it. I have a friend who has a catalog with fantasy issues in it. I will check and see if your coins are listed.

They still maybe worth something because there are some people who collect fantasy issues.

Thanks allranger. All I have been able to find on the Burundi set was one comment that it was a fantasy set with a value of 40 euros (or dollars, don't quite remember) per coin but that valuation was vague.
