All, Been a lurker for sometime, and have decided to jump into the pool with the rest of ya's. That said, I have nearly completed a MS-62 collection of Peace dollars (mixing PCGS and NGC). I purchased them through those two TPG's due to wanting to feel confident I did not have improperly cleaned and/or altered coins. However, I really would like to display them in a Dansco album. I recognize that breaking them out would lose the "benefit" of having them graded and protected. But as I currently have them in these 3 hole binder plastic "pages?" that hold up to nine slabbed coins, there's just no eye appeal from either the different style of holder to the glare the plastic page gives off. I had considered sending them in to NGC for the black "retro" holders for uniformity. But again, I would have to fight the "glare". I guess my major question is, if I kept the Dansco album in say a ziploc with silicone/dessicant, would I keep toning enough at bay? And what else am I not considering? Thank you in advance for your input. Now...may the opinions begin.

You are going to find out that there are those appreciate slabs and those who...don't.

As a slab accumulator (my 7070 collection is all slabbed ) I would say leave them alone in their protective cases. I have my collection in nine Lighthouse trays (image below in a fancy case) that are stored in a Pelican case.

Here is one of my trays of Half Dollars;

I say just leave them like they are in their slabs. Maybe just get a ngc and pcgs slab box for them.

Welcome!
I would leave them all in slabs as well, and go with a case that has trays specifically for slabs like posted above. Taking them out of slabs could potentially greatly diminish the value of your collection, should you ever find yourself in a position of wanting to sell.

I agree with the others. I had a similar experience about 15-20 years ago or before the 3rd party grading services really took off. I collected Franklin halves, of which, a good portion were purchased slabbed. I decided to break them out so I could display the collection in a uniform fashion. Well, my collection interests changed and I found myself wanting to sell off most of the Franklin series but took a financial hit for all of the coins to either be regraded or sold raw. Your Peace dollars are nice and protected now. You have time to think this over. Once they are free'd from their slabbed enslavement it will be costly to regrade them and you won't be able to guarantee the same grade.

I am a Dansco fan, but my collection, especially the classic coins, are in the circulated grades.

I say I would, but I honestly do not know if I could break apart a slabbed collection if it were all MS coins.

Now, give me a slabbed AG/G/VG/F/VF/EF coin that fills a hole in my 7070 and that slab would be cracked faster than you can say "What?"

Exactly.

It's just like a 3,000 mile big block Corvette in beautiful original condition. It's too nice to use!

Trust me, if I had one of those, it would get driven... but only on the occasional sunny Sunday.

Thank you all for the responses and ...umm.. corvette analogies. oih82w8, thanks for the images. I have seen that sort of set up in other forms. I was not aware one existed for slabbed coins. Obviously I was poor on my research. I think that is the avenue that best meets a happy medium. Again, thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions!

I came to the determination that I was going to complete my silver dollar collections in slabs (my own or TPGs) then possibly worry about Dansco for the second round. All my others I am doing Dansco. Not sure why I feel that way about it, but there it is. LOL So definitely keep them in the slabs...for now. Perhaps get a Dansco and as you upgrade coins, crack them out out throw them in the Dansco?

Oh, and that Vette would be driven every day there was not snow on the ground! LOL Well, the days I was not on the Harley.

Check out Lindner, they have some pretty nice looking cases/displays for slabbed coins:
http://www.lindner-usa.com/numismat...storage.html
They're currently running a special 20% off all their storage solutions for slabbed coins.
The CARUS case looks nice, solid wood box with 4 trays.
