Regular readers should understand my affection for honestly circulated coins ... and my 4-year quest for a complete circulated type set of classic silver commemorative. I've decided to take the plunge into honestly circulated Peace dollars ... the 24-coin set in low grade appears by my research to be much more obtainable on the market ... plus ... I simply enjoy low grade coins. Grade opinions on this one please ... 1928-S Peace Dollar Yes ... there is an "S" mm noticeable with the coin in hand. I will share the PCGS results when it comes back with my latest batch of submitted circulated commemorative halves. Would enjoy reading your opinions ... any chance for PO01? David

It "should" be when compared to the PO01 in the top graded lowball Peace dollar set.

David . . . FR02 details If the grade was based on the rev I think you'd have a shot at the ultimate lowball grade of PO01 details.. I attached the PCGS FR02 pics. I think your obv would give it a FR. As to the details, what's going on with the circular lines from 7-11 obv? Is that PMD or is it some type of planchet or die defect?

It has a chance at PO01, but the obverse might have too much details for that. Perhaps you should make it a pocket piece for a few weeks :).

Great coin for your new collection. I would have to guess fr02, chance of p01...
The circular lines jeffrose mentioned caught my eye also.

I think the coin has just a slightly better chance of coming back as a PO-1 than FR-2. The coin appears to be a little bit in between. I think the reverse is solid PO-1. The obverse looks like a weak FR-2. The word liberty and the date look a little strong for PO-1 but In god we trust and Miss Liberty are weaker than the FR-2 example Jeffrose posted. I am going to place my chips on PO-1. Crossing my fingers for you.

Thanks to all for your informed views and considerate response ...
The coin was received at PCGS yesterday ... so I'll share an answer on PCGS opinion in approximately 30 days.
Gladly accept any other CCF opinions in the meantime.

The wizards at PCGS have rendered their verdict on this lovely low-ball .... I'm truly enjoying the hunt for my newest low-ball set of Peace dollars. I was of course hoping for a PO01 ... Thanks to all who replied. David
