Hi,

Does anyone recognize this coin? It looks like the half-dollar from the period but read ONE DOL?

It's a seated Libery dollar isn't it? 1840 - 1873.

IIRC it's the same except the dollar/half dollar part.

Making sure: Does the size match the dollar of the era? If not, then for sure fake.

Else (and I'm NOT an expert in Seated Liberty coins) gut reaction says the date is a little off and edge around the denticles is a little too thick, ergo fake.

An expert will come along later and refute/confirm my gut reaction

The date is considerably off, I'd say it is a no question fake.

After comparing the photo you posted to the ones on the PCGS Photograde, the date is way out of position. I'd have to agree with Condor.

A better photo might help.

Im no Seated
Liberty expert, Just my humble opinion.

I'm also no seated liberty expert, but I remember reading that the date size had some variation over the series. Can't recall if it was specific to the mint of origin or just the year in question. The date doesn't look that far off some I've seen in the series.

The coin doesn't look like an obvious fake to me but that doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't. Perhaps a few clear pictures and maybe a close up of the date would help.
