It means that it has slots for the proof coins as well. So you would need the P D and S coins

On the Jefferson Dansco 8113, what is say is "including proof only issues" Starting in the early 1970's San Francisco mint started making only proof coins. In general "S" mint coin since then are only proof, not business strike. Of course coins like the current ATB Quarters now have a "S" mint business strike, so there are exceptions. Where it complicated is, for example in 1970, there is both a "S" mint marked coin for proof and business strike .. but only one hole in the Dansco 8113. I just pulled my album out and see I have a proof in the slot. For years where there is both a business strike and a proof coin ... I guess it is up to the individual which coin to put into that hole. Really it comes down to, if you want to collect business strike coins or also the proof coins.

Yes, the key is that is says "proof-only" and not "proof" on the album. For years where there were both a proof and a business strike, there is still only one hole. For the modern proof era, this means the 1968-S through 1974-S Lincoln Cents and 1968-S through 1970-S Jefferson nickels. Consider this, every proof from 1964 and before were made in Philadelphia. If the albums had holes for all of the proofs, the albums would be bigger than they currently are and might have a lot of holes that are very expensive to fill.

Good point Jbuck. I have thought about this, wondering if there was a easy way to say it better. For Jefferson nickels, the main albums are, 7113 and 8113, for years 1938 - 2005. The 7113 will have holes for "S" mint coins up until 1970, for the years San francisco made business strike coins. The 8113 will be the same as the 7113 up to the year 1970, the difference after that is there will be holes for the "S" mint coins starting in 1971, that are proof only issues, meaning no other type coins were issued from that same mint.

I gave all my Dansco's away and went to 2x2 type albums. I find I have more flexibility with these and the coins are better looked after as well. I collect the business strikes, proof strikes as well as the silver proofs and have them all in the same album. No such thing as an empty hole in a 2x2 album and you won't run out of space when you get to a certain year either

I did the exact opposite. I went from 2x2s to albums. I like the look, ease of handling and protection offered by the albums. Yes, I lost the flexibility I had with the 2x2s but there's always a trade-off.

Quote: It means, "You're about to spend more money in the long run than if you bought the album without proofs" Fun fact... My Jefferson nickel album is the 7113. Back when I started cracking all of my proof sets, I added a blank page to add the proof nickels. Up until that time, the Dansco album was worth more than the nickels that it contained.

Just one more reason I like Whitman Albums. I can make my own with or without any coins. I've made lots of Albums with blank pages and blank covers. I've also made an all Proof Album with those 20 slot sheets and 2x2's. Doing that makes for fantastic variations and add on or removing. Making your own Albums are just almost as much fun as the coins themselves.
