I am new to coin collecting, and this appears to be Cud that mistakenly dripped on the coin. What do you think?

It is a die crack. A Cud is where a piece of the die fell off like this: 1996-P-Washington-Quarter---Is-This-Extra-Cud?

Thanks so much - I totally misunderstood what Cud was then. Is a die crack like this worth getting graded?

Worth what it says on the back of the coin. Grading is for higher dollar coins.

I know it's not worth a lot but if it was mine, I would put it in a 2x2. I like error coins that I pull from circulation or hoards. This die break is something I could sell at a show in a 'dollar box.'

That is interesting, I have a whole jar full of cracks and chipped coins, PM me of you want to add those to your one dollar box.

I am definitely saving it. It's my first real "error" of any kind.

chzman,

Like I said above. I love finding these in circulation or hoards. I don't need to pay over face due to the number I have accumulated too. I haven't done a show in over 10 years but with my semi-retirement just around the corner, I'll start doing some shows again. Coins are not my only crutch. I prefer to keep my coins and sell the other stuff first.
