I have found quite a few toned coins while roll searching. At first I kept them all. As time went by I was just getting too many so I just started keeping the ones I thought were really cool looking.
What do you guys do with toned coins?
I know there are collectors who love toned coins. They don't do much for me though.

I keep them if they really appeal to me.

Only toned ones that are supposed to be toned (silver, copper, brass). The other coloured ones I try to touch as little as possible - today I found a green nickel that had someone's eyelash stuck to it...

I just love 'em. When adding to my collection, I specifically look for them and if between a toned coin and an un-toned coin in the same condition, color wins every time!

Toned coins are actually pretty. Some collectors love it especially when they are really old. I have some. Sometimes it shows the history of it from the color itself.

Rainbow toned coins are in a very delicate and transitory state. The best you can do with them is lock them up in airtight screw capsules. Unfortunately, that method of preservation usually precludes storage with the rest of your collection, in some form of album.

If it's an ugly toning and has any PM in it, except Zincolns, it goes to my "Doomsday" hoard.

I love toning, and found all sorts of types. My favorite is the electric blue toned nickels I have have found. Hard to show on camera, but when tilted toward the light you can see concentric rings of blue

A consistent, even patina on a coin is very pleasing to my eye. Some degree of toning on older coins is almost a requirement. The lack of it suggests that someone has most likely been messing with it.

I just found a very nice toned 1964 nickel, rainbow colored almost. I kept it because I have never seen anything like it.

I have 3 Dansco albums with 8 pages (20 holes each page) that I keep all of my unusual, toned, plated, ounterstamped, PMD, stickered, melted, etc halves I find in. The albums weren't cheap and that is $80 face per album tied up in coins that are worth only $80 but I enjoy looking at them and wondering where they've been and what they've been through.

In general I do not like toning on coins, but I have been awed by some of the tremendous colors and patterns toned coins have. If I see one that just blows me away, I keep it.

Since I postd this, I have found two toned coins I decided to keep. Maybe I am coming around to the idea of toned = nice?
