Because solid rolls dont exist as far as I know. It is a variety, not a mint mark and unless youre extremely lucky and snag an entire roll then the best you'll get is a composite roll. The only way you can tell they are double bar is to open it.

I dunno wait until you hear from a few other people before tearing into it. The 50c is awesome. I picked one up a couple months back but it was a bit more off centre than yours. Either way its an awesome coin, only the 4th one I have seen now. Please post an obverse pic though.

Heres mine. I've never uploaded with photobucked to this site but thats the only place I've got pics and this coin is now tucked away. They might turn out a bit dodgy. How much did I pay? lol a lot, well for me anyway. I'll email you how much shane.

Is there any chance of getting your money back if the only double bar is the one on the end ? You no doubt would if the were all double bar. Personally i'd crack it.

I dont know shane. Its in my safety deposit box. There are a couple bagging marks and a little bit of wear. I put it around the gEF-aUNC mark. This photo lets it down a bit.

appleangle07 it has come from a very good coin dealer who has said he has never seen the paper wrapping around the coin like this on both the 1979 and 1980 what would be the odds on getting a double bar on the end coin if it was a mint roll off them what would it be worth as a roll have a guess as I have no idea and if it wasn't a mint roll of them well I guess I recked the guessing game

Shane, My guess would be its just ones on the end through luck. I dont know for sure what happened at that time, but I suspect all coins from all dies just got mixed together before being wrapped, so you will get a mix of doublebars and no doublebars. A proportion of the coins made wer e double bars. Lets say 1 in 30 is a double bar. This is just a number for this example although I think it might actually be close to that from my noodling, but I have not kept stats. Then there would be a 2 in 30 chance that a coin on the end is a double bar (as there are 2 ends to the roll). Then there is a 50/50 chance for each end coin that the double bar is on display and not facing in. Someone else might know that for sure. I would not expect all the coins to be double bars, and if you take the roll appart it is no longer a mint roll. I would keep it as is - its nice that way.

I would also be in the 'crack it' camp. Risky to assume roll is all one kind, unless rolled from the mint.

man this is hard if I could prove they were all real what would they be worth any guesses would it be ok to open one end and just take a peck at the next coin would it still be a mint roll if the second coin was one to what would I do both rolls have the bars at each end
