Went through bag number 2 with older Canadian finds being: 1939, 1943, 1945, 1951, 1954, 1959. Found 6 wheat cents, 5 UK one pennies and a 2006 1 cent from the Bahamas. Found a 2009 US log cabin, a 1991 Cdn with nice wood toning, a dime, and best of all another 2006 magnetic no logo.

In a perfect world the bags cointain 2500 but in reality it varies quite widely. RBC uses them for people who bring in large amounts of unrolled pennies.

RBC actually gives/sells you pennies? I only ask because I see you're in Canada... I've gotten mixed responses from different banks, some are willing. Others not so.

Yes, I've been picking up pennies at RBC for a little over a year now. Getting close to the 200k searched mark (196,450 pennies). No risk urban treasure hunting at it's best :).

My only penny supplier currently is BMO. I only get 20 rolls in 1 go because I have to put them in my bag and it's very heavy because my bag strap is on one shoulder.

And after some time of nothing good in rolls, finally! A 2001 no P nickel and a Creativity millennium quarter. I hope these millennium quarters aren't totally gone yet, I'm still missing some.

Here's a question for all the penny roll hunters in Canada... When I asked if I could still get pennies at the bank, I was told it was illegal for them to give them to me. Is this true? if it is, where would I find that law in writing? I would love to be able to get pennies as I started roll hunting just after they were retired.

I don't think it's strictly illegal but it is against regulations.

Like nalaberong said. They didn't say that it was against the law to me, most banks just say it was against regulations.

The teller who told you it was against the law is just blowing smoke, and does not fully understand the legislation. I speak to almost all of my banks regarding pennies, and I have only gotten 1 RBC to sell me pennies (out of the many I deal with) and I attribute it to a few things.

1) ladies are younger, and more friendly and
2) going there early Saturday morning, when its not busy.

I went to this one branch for maybe 3 weeks in a row, and then on the forth, I joked with the teller asking to buy pennies. Her response was to look at the other more senior teller (still maybe in 30's) and said I don't see why not. I was also told at another branch that "THEY" are cracking down on letting people buy pennies. Who "They" might be I am not sure. All I know is every week end I am on my route saving pennies by the Roll.
