I have to agree with you ace, my home branch is an RBC and they are all younger ladies, and very friendly - one of the reasons why I chose to open an account there in the first place. They said they'd give me all the Pennies I wanted, but they only had a small handful. The bigger RBC around here said no. Now I just have to hunt around to find a branch that will give me them. I really don't see the issue myself.

To add to my earlier comment, I went to the RBC on Saturday to find an older lady working with the 2 younger ones, and unfortunately I ended up being served by the older woman, and when I asked if I could buy pennies, I was sternly told "NO" we can't sell those anymore and just the week prior I was sold pennies from one of the other ladies (I did not mention this to her)

Yep, the man that said it was illegal to me was also, well, middle aged. I'll keep looking. I still don't see why we can't get them. You can still spend them, but not get them from the bank. Think of the old dollar coins, the bank will give me those if they have them, and I could spend them if I wanted to.

Kind of an amazing coincidence but I picked up exactly 71 rolls today = 3,550 + 196,450 (already searched) = 200,000 total pennies searched when I'm done with these ones!

My favourite teller gave me this little gem in exchange for a new quarter:

Called pretty much every single TD in downtown Toronto today to see who would Give out pennies , So I went to a TD today to pickup some pennies, got $17 worth. Asked them for any old coins or bills, got $13.5 in non silver Canadian Half Dollars. Wanted to go to the next TD on my list that would give out pennies (I called ahead), but there was a RBC across the street, and my curiosity overtook me. It paid off :-). I made a deposit, then asked for any interesting old bills or coins. They said they would go check, and they said they had some old dollar bills and some Canadian nickel dollars and halves, and a little bit of US Kennedy halves they could sell at face value instead of the Exchange rate. They had 33 of the 1974 Series $1 Dollar Bills! Most were in pretty good shape. While the teller was counting out the halves, I saw the white rims and the silver toning staring at me. I was on the verge of kissing the teller! They also had 2 boxes of pennies, in which some rolls were the sealed non magnetic rolls from 2012 from the mint.

Final Score:
$67 in Pennies
~10 Non Silver Kennedy halves
~3 1964 90% Kennedy halves
~1 1967 40% Kennedy half
~1 1980 Regular Canadian Half
~1 1991 Proof Canadian Half
$33 in 1 Dollar Bills

Went through the penny rolls with older Canadian finds being: 1942(2), 1945(2), 1946, 1947ML, 1952, 1953, 1957(2). Also found 6 wheat cents, 3 two euro coins, and a 1981 5 Pfennig.

I never felt the need to record things before, but this time I did for fun

$60 in Nickels
18 US not checked yet
18 between 1960 to 1966, 6 of which were 1964 plain, and 3 1965 which I haven't looked closer at yet.
2 2000p and a couple nice newer ones to upgrade my book
78 coins that are from 1968 to 1981
and these 3

I also got a full box of pennies today from a teller who was reluctant to let them out before. The last time I saw her I said I would put together a birth year set for her. Maybe that changed her mind.

I got another box from a bank today. I went through the rolls, but didn't open them. I was just end checking. Found 2 blank paper rolls with really old paper. I opened them up and it looks like they were both wrapped in 1972, because that's the newest one in there and it is in AU condition.

There were another 2 rolls in there that were the paper rolls without the hole at the end. They looked like they were short some so I decided to open them up. It turns out they were dime rolls, mixed up with the pennies. Not only that but there were extra dimes than in a roll in there, so it was a $10 instant profit for me.

Searched a box of nickels today. There was enough to fill 2 rolls of 99.9% nickels, and 1.5 rolls of US nickels.

When I went to dump them at the BMO Coin counter, I asked for pennies. They only had 2 rolls because they just shipped them out. Anyways, there was a RBC nearby. I stopped by to make a deposit, and asked for any interesting old coins or bills. It turns out they had $20 in pennies, along with some VERY VERY crisp $1 and $2 notes. Unfortunately they were not consecutive, but they were in GEM UNC condition. Not a fold, not a crease, crisp off the press. Seems RBC gives all the bills, and TD all the pennies.

By the way, TD Coin Counters are usually off by 5-10% of what you are dumping. I highly recommend you go to a BMO to dump, they don't use a Coinstar with a hopper, they use what looks like a washing machine. It counted $90 in 30 seconds for me, exactly what I put in.

Rescued a Silver 1966 Quarter from my Dad's change jar. Was swapping loose nickels for quarters, and found that little Gem.

Picked up 31 rolls of pennies at the bank today. The most interesting roll was a lone brown paper roll which appears to have been rolled in 1972 because the coins ranged from 1940 to 1972. The 1972 coins in the roll were largely uncirculated albeit toned. It had "7229479" written on it which may be a phone number. Older Canadian finds were: 1940, 1942, 1946, 1947ML, 1948, 1951, 1956(3), 1957. Also found a Wheat cent, a Euro cent, a British new penny, a Barbados one cent, and a 2003 Viatnamese 1000 Dong.

I return almost everything. I was keeping copper cents for a while but it just got a little rediculous so I returned them all. Of the pennies I picked up today (1550) I am keeping 75 which consists of older coins, foreign coins, coins from the 60's through 1996 with varying levels of mint lustre and problem free high grade coins from 1997+.
