1816 8 Reales - Was It Cleaned? - Coin Community Forum

raybutler Valued Member United States 96 Posts	Posted 03/28/2013 09:31 am Hello, I have this 1816 8 reales coin and was told it hadn't been cleaned, I'm not so sure as it should have some patina after nearly 200 years. If it is cleaned, does it have any value above melt, or is it basically just junk silver? Thank you in advance. Report this Post to the Staff

Although the pics are a bit unclear, I would have to guess that it has been cleaned since it would be darker due to the same processes that have caused it to lose material and detail. I would say that it has Fine+ details (maybe it would look VF if it still had some of the darker patina and if the pics were clearer). Report this Post to the Staff
