All- Here's another coin I took a picture of with the "good" equipment (actually, I watched the process more than participated). The "original" jpgs are just under 2 MB each (and that's even dumbed down from the raw tif files). One of these days I'm going to have to spend some time on the photography forum... Anyway, I've put this up for sale on ebay a few times but it hasn't sold. I hadn't realized at the time, but ebay won't let you mention a MS grade for a non-TPG coin. I'm not fluent with the scale above MS-60- would anyone hazard a guess on this one? The smudge at 11 O'clock on the obverse is real as is the one at 6:30- all the little flakes are dust on the outside of the holder. There is also a thin die scratch on and off from about 2 to 6 on the reverse, with a little die porosity/wear visible around the edge. Cheers and thanks for looking, tbg

Thanks for the comments- I was thinking mid-60s myself, but again I'm not very experienced beyond just "Unc".
I've listed it twice or three times now, the last starting at $4.99, though haven't had any bites yet. Either the cat value is a touch unrealistic or else the right person hasn't found it yet...
cheers, tbg

I probably would have bought it if I saw it. I'm just not always checking japanese on ebay.

JimmyJames- I believe I'm still too much of a newbie to post a link to my ebay profile, but the coin was re-listed yesterday. I quick search should find it... cheers, tbg

I put a bid in and someone outbid me!
I always wonder if bidding early helps or not. Does it scare people away because they know other people are interested? Or does it make them thing the coin is better because they can see that someone else thinks it has value?

JimmyJames- I can't say for sure- I imagine books have been written about the psychology of auctions, and ebay in particular. I haven't sold enough items to get a sense of trends. Of the few items I've sold recently maybe half have been to a single bidder. Except for one or two exceptions, the other half were sold with not more than two or three people interested. Frankly, a lot of it has to do with the luck of the draw- how many similar items are immediately available and how many people happen to be paying attention at the time... cheers, tbg
