Has anyone ever been robbed while going in or out of banks with coins before? What is the most amount of face value in coins you have ever walked in or out of a bank with before? I had to ask these question because my parents are convinced that I am going to be robbed with all my coins but I always tell them wouldn't someone rather steal paper money from someone else than steal coins from me.

I've walked out with $4K at a time before (in a few trips in and out to the car)
At 25lbs a box of halves and I think nickels and quarters are pretty close weightwise I don't think most thieves would be running very fast with them.
I would be more concerned about getting robbed after dumping and cashing out.

I have had $1700 in bags walking in to the counter at one time. Good luck trying to take those bags and run.. All together it was almost 90 pounds in 3 different bags. If someone DID manage to get them away from me and take off, I would be considerably faster than them on foot assuming I hadn't been stabbed or otherwise incapacitated. I'm sure there are cameras ALL OVER the bank.. parking lot included. Also, if you are stupid enough to rob someone in the BANK parking lot... Well.. I don't know what.
Honestly I'm more concerned about someone following me home and robbing me there.
Also, $500 in half dollars, quarters or dimes should all be the same weight since they are all still proportional.

When I have over one thousand on me in my left hand, my glock is in my right hand. When both hands have money bags, my brother in law with his SIG is with me. Better to be careful than dead/broke.

Yep, when I walk in or out of the bank, and I have a couple boxes of halves, I have my gun on me (actually, I am always armed, but definitely with that kind of cash on me, I make sure I have quick access to it). Just in case. When I leave the bank, I take a very odd and winding, twisting route home. Just in case. I am more concerned with an idiot thinking they'll hit me at home than I am with an idiot hitting me in the bank parking lot.

skyshark is right. You are much more likely to be robbed at home while you are distracted getting out of the car or finding your keys to open the front door. I always take precautions driving home from the bank/coin store. Only once did I ever think I was being followed. When I drive home I go down a really long street where I can see for almost a mile. Since it is a residential street that I don't live on there isn't a lot of traffic, if someone were following me it would be pretty obvious. Then I take a trip to the police station, that will stop someone following you pretty quickly.

Most good crooks are looking at coin shows or coin club meetings to make the hit. They know the value of the high buck coin. Within reason if your are getting a lot of withdrawals local, caution is the word.

I feel safest at, or near, a bank. Banks are a place only the most brazen would attempt a robbery because of 24/7 surveillance and immediate, direct communications with law enforcement. Successful criminals are not stupid and most unsuccessful ones are not insane. Be vigilant but don't live your life in fear.

I used to live in a not-so-great area and my neighbor got robbed at gunpoint getting out of her car late at night, so I picked up a handgun and carry it every day I don't go over state lines. If I do go over state lines, I still have it in my possession, just stored in a manner as to prevent a felony. If you carry more than $1k on you to hunt, you best arm yourself. I would much rather shoot somebody than hand them the $5k+ I sometimes have on me.

You guys crack me up. Sound like gun toting hill billies. I have quite a few guns, I just never felt the need to carry one on me, I also live in probably one of the safest and most wholesome neighborhoods in Phoenix.

Two were at the credit union my wife works at. The police are always too late.

my dump bank has an armed guard that stands in the corner of the parking lot, and then walks around the building and uses their smart phone to scan stickers to they know they are actually walking around the building. SO I usually will wait until they have me in sight before I start unloading, however I have taken out and loaded the truck at other banks with as much as 12k, and yes I have felt like people were watching me and I felt uncomfortable.
