Yeah the cert does check, but do you think the two's are the same? To me the PCGS one has a flat top baseline and the bought one wavy?

Can you take a clearer image and crop it so that only the coin is in the image ? Also your ebay link isn't working for me either

I had trouble posting the link too. To get it to work I had to manually removed the .au from ebay.com.au

The serrif of the '2' looks quite different, one from the other. I agree with trout regarding the grade - probably just an attempt to promote the coin.
This coin should be sent to Noble Numismatics or I.S.Wright in Sydney, or Downies in Melbourne, for an independent opinion of the highest reputation.
In this case, the slab just helps to cloud attempts at authentication; best to break the coin out of it's prison for closer examination and confirmation of weight.
Unfortunately, it is common knowledge that there are a few very deceptive fakes out there.

Bilbo87 It looks to me as though the coin has been dipped and lightly covered up going by the ebay image. Underneath the obverse lettering around the perimeter of the rim is too light coppery looking for an Australian copper coin from that era. Like the coin has been left in Coca Cola for a bit too long. For what it's worth : I don't like the look of the lettering on the reverse. Have you got a eg. 1922 or 1925 halfpenny to compare the reverse lettering with that on the 1923 ? Also for comparison the reverse lettering of a eg. 1919 halfpenny should be a good guide for any variation(s) to lettering on a 1923 halfpenny. Hope this helps you.

Bilbo87: I believe SAP, a CCF member, lives in the Brisbane area; perhaps he may suggest the best coin dealer with the best specialist knowledge that may be able to help you.

Based on the PCGS pic the coin looks genuine. Overgraded in my opinion though.

Thank you for your help and advice guys, once I receive the coin I will have it checked out and update you all on the outcome.
@sel_69l I will endeavour to contact SAP, as I'm a new member my privilege to email another member is revoked. I have contacted Admin for permission to do this.
In any case, I will ring around the various collectors trading in Brisbane tomorrow to see if they can recommend an expert for me.
Thanks again guys

If you simply google 'Coins Dealers Brisbane', you should get the 3 main ones.
I just compared it to my coin and it looks 'kosher' to me, but my coin is way more worn.
