Tired one. Bust is not really pointed but is that a L?

Not only is that an 1864 L, it is the Snow-4 variety. It commands a very slight premium - msg me if you want to get rid of it.

Nice find and thanks for sharing.

I guess there is a little something there where the 'L' should be.
What is the snow 4, the doubling in the date?
I should get the snow IHC book one of these days.

Yeah, what's the snow? I can't really tell about the L but I'll take Drsandman's word for it.

Repunched date variety.

The "L" does not need to be "seen" to be identified as an "L" type. The bust is a tale-tell indicator.

"The 1864-L has a distinct, pointed bust so that even low-grade coins with the "L" worn off can be easily identified."

The bust of the coin in pics doesn't look the same to me.
Does different variety has different busts?

I think it could be an a S-4. Good eye. Its difficult to see all the diagnotics due to the wear on the coin. The diganotics are all 4 numbers are repunched to the north. Date is positioned to the right of the point of the bust. Also the 1 and 8 is supposed to have a slight repunch to the south.
