Hopefully craigslist is allowed on here. A guy within a few hours of my place is buying coins. Read the ad and tell me what you think. Personally, I'd pay more than what he offers, but I just want to see at what cost others buy coins on CCF from clearly knowledgeable people. http://muskegon.craigslist.org/wan/3583415882.html"So, you got an old beat up silver dollar, I'll gladly pay you $20. If you got a 1921 Peace silver dollar, I'll gladly pay you double (probably more), because of the rarity." No duh! I'd pay a lot more than that, say $25 to $30 minimum for a silver dollar plus obviously a lot more for the 1921. But who really doesn't have Internet and can't find values? Older people..who I guess are more likely to have silver dollars. Thoughts?

He's looking for a sucker who has a shoe box full of coins. APMEX is paying closer to what you would pay. If it was me I personally would pay under melt (like this guy is trying to do) unless it was something I needed as I prefer to get my silver for face value out of searching rolls so it is hard for me to justify paying money for 90%. Silver Eagles are a different story.

Sounds like he is trying to make himself sound good. If he really did it out of the goodness of his heart, I doubt he would be flaunting about it.

There may be some people that fall for this type hype, then there are those that see it for what it is.

I hate seeing people do this... Drives me mad, if its bad enough I usually email them telling them what I think or if I'm feeling really diabolical I'll email back and forth pretending to know nothing about coins.. Such as "I have a shoe box with large $1 coins from the late 1800's, they say.... And most have a CC on the back a few have an S...ya, $20 each sounds great, thanks alot!"..... Lol, and set up a time/place to meet and blow them off.. Hopefully they waste the money they ripped some little old lady off on the gas they waste... did I mention that ads like that drive me nuts? Lol

LOL Nathan, that's awesome. I have enough coin collectors putting ads around, and many pretty much follow these same lines...
"I'll buy your coins for a better price than anyone else, and I won't rip you off! At least, not worse than they would have!"

This guy has been on craigslist for a while now. Everytime I see that ad it bugs me. He's close enough to me that I could almost spit on him.

Honestly doesn't look too bad to me. You know what most we buy gold shops will give you for that Morgan dollar? Probably in the neighborhood of $12....so this guy offering $20 is certainly better. No, he can't have mine at that, but he is offering more than a lot of people sell theirs for. Point is, yeah he is a bit low, but I wouldn't call him a scammer. My aunt took some sterling flatware to a buy gold place not long ago and they offered her 25c per gram when melt value was over 80c! now that is a scam! I had her mail it to me, got 90% of melt for it, and gave her all but 10% of the money.... they also offered less than half of the melt value on some nice gold jewelry....I told her to run away!

I'd keep away from Craigslist when it comes to buing or selling anything if a larger than a few dollars are concerned. Just to many horror stories.

If you're a buyer, it's "junk." If you're a seller, it's "classic." LOL
