Key date? Is there's hardly any MS70 for this grade and worth that much for a regular strike? Well perfect business strike that is.

PCGS has 0 graded as MS70 from that year so it is certainly a rarity.

NGC has 88 Graded as 70s and even their price guide only has it listed as a 22k coin.

Certainly a rarity but 29k seems to be a very lucky day for that seller

Money laundering scheme in an effort less 10% ebay fees to wash $30K in ill gotten funds.

This happens in may other "hobbies" listed on ebay but usually for $3K buy it now items worth $50.

Hmmmmm...I have a roll of them purchased in 1999 straight from a monster box. Maybe I should crack it open and check for the perfect one

I read somewhere, that it would cost over $65,000 to assemble a collection of MS70 Silver Eagles.

It would seem that total my have to be adjust up a bit.

Someone shell bidded it, illegal tactics. If you look at history of bid, someone shelled it over 10 times.

Wow! Just not worth it... I would never pay that much for one coin when you could buy tons of different ones.

Im actually not sure if thats even possible. I cant access the full NGC population report so I dont know if they have 70s for every year or not, but I do know theyre 8 years where the highest graded by PCGS is a 69. Theres another 4 years where they only have 1 70.

I have my Suspicion that the 3rd parties have something to do with the coin market manipulation.

As stated, a money laundering scheme. Coin World lists an MS70 as 4775.00.

So found some more info, I doubt this is a money laundering scheme and Coin World seems to be way off for this one.

Heritage had one sell for over 25k

http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...tIdNo=105019

Great Collections had one sell for over 22k

http://www.greatcollections.com/Coi...le-NGC-MS-70

Silvertowne sold them for 25k

http://www.silvertowne.com/p-17274-...70-ngc.aspx?

Numismedia has them listed at 22k

But then the real kicker, someone got an absolute steal from David Lawrence getting one for a little over 100 bucks

Hello all, Missed everyone!

Jack Its the first thing that comes to my mind!
Macmercury What in the world would make you think that...
I couldn't agree more!
Just this week Ecollector from PCGS Had a write up on Kennedy Halfs. I enjoyed it.
But as usual the conspiracy theorist in me had to jump out,
wondering how much this article effects prices / interest.
How many high end examples do you think they have ready to sell once the price peaks.
A more plausible scenario would be getting rid of inventory currently for sale... I suppose
I know I'm looking out for Kennedy's a lot more then I was lol

That's not shell bidding...If someone puts in a high bid of say $25,000 on an item presently selling for $5000 every time someone bids over the present amount (say $6000) the original bidder will supersede that amount and it will look like a new bid (it is)

So, bids at 6k, 7k, 8k etc. will all be seen as new bids by the $25k person (up to their max bid). I have the same situation with one of my auctions ending tonight....the last 7 bids by the same person but created by the unseen in between bidder...

I'm glad I'm not a coin collector. Look how much "stack" you could do with that amount of money.
