Has anyone else noticed the optional detailed feedback on ebay. It asks you to rate sellers from 1-5 stars using the following questions:

How accurate was the item description?

How satisfied were you with the seller's communication?

How quickly did the seller ship the item?

How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges?

It appears that this information will be kept anonymous to avoid retaliatory feedback. Is it possible that ebay is doing something for the consumer here?

The speed of shipping category is going to be a big problem because once the item leaves the seller's hands, he/she has no control over how fast the shipper sends it. I know, there are lots of guarantees by USPS, FedEx, etc., but there are many times they do not perform up to par. To use that to penalize a seller is pretty pathetic, IMHO.

The rest of it might be helpful, IF it is truly anonymous. I have my doubts.

This type of feedback is now compulsory on ebay France but not on ebay Germany
I think this is like a marketing probe
They are trying out if it will work on secondary markets

I do not like it
As long as a buyer can get a retalitory neg it does not mean anything
Most buyers are not going to risk a neg back
That is why you have to have a sellers ID and a buyers ID

I think that the sellers should have the same options to rate the buyers also ,,keep the playing field level .

Oh but they do

As a buyer I left one negative for somebody selling me a gold coin in the box belonging to a silver coin and the seller replied I did not understand the pictures ( I did not because there was an empty box half hidden by a goldcertificate and the goldcoin was next to the silverbox )

As a seller I gave one negative to somebody who bought a 100 year old hungarian oak bedroom for 299 euro and left me with 200 pounds of mattras and springbottom which took me two workmen and 50 euro to get rid of
so net I had like 225 for a hundred year old bedroom and I had had to be in standby for 5 hours cause the buyer had too small a trailer so she had to drive back and forth twice even living bottom spring and mattras
On return on the neg the buyer said the bottom stank of pee that was why it was left
Well she could have said that in my face instead of thanking me for helping her load her pitiful trailer

I like the new system. It is similar to how Overstock does it. Realizing the shipper has no control over the shipping after it leaves their hands I have been trying to be fair when giving that a mark. I take people at their word and if they lie I am a firm believer that it will come back around to them someday.
