Got this as part of a bulk lot. The coins are 1979. Thanks!

Don't believe it's an RCM issued set.Wooden cases such as this were available for aftermaket sets.

The case looks like it is recycled from the Montreal Olympics proof set, with an aftermarket insert for Canadian circulation coins.

Peel back the gold sticker to see if the Olympic logo is present.
The cases for the Montreal sets were made by Renwick.
After the Olympic program was seriously undersold, there must have been a lot of unused cases hanging around.

Yes, it has the leather stamps as shown. Yes, there is an Olympic logo under the gold sticker on the lid.

Neat, makes sense they are Olympic cases with 1974 stamped on the end of a 1980 set.

No doubt not a coincidence that the coins are 1980..... That coincides with the big spike in silver prices which caused many of the Olympic sets to sent to the melting pot.
