PennyGuy from here wrote a nice little summary of the Two Cent Piece for me the other day. Thought I'd share it in case any of you were interested. I had no idea it took so long for the 2CP to go from proposal to mint.

Great article. I had no idea so many were melted by the mint. Just think how big it would have been if introduced in the early 1800's.

I didn't know that either. And the fact that they can't tell which years were melted down...

Nice article, though I knew all this, but then the Two Cent series is what I've specalized in since the early 1990's. Gotta love a short set of completable coins from the civil war era - in VF and better not that outrageous of cost to have a complete set even today.

Then I'd imagine there would be a whole lot more die variaties and tougher dates than just the 1864 Small Motto and 1872 coins (not counting Proofs). Also any full RED colored coins from that era would be super tough and rare today!
