I'm still working on getting a decent picture, I think my lighting needs work. Anyway, this 1934D is in one of the really old PCGS holders. I'm not sure what's going on with the line above the eyes on the obverse. Under 10x there is something there but it's not quite a scratch, definitely not as visible as the digital camera makes it out to be. There are die polishing marks on the reverse from the ONE up through the first couple letters of UNITED that don't show in the photo, and the D is filled.

AU50 or 55? not sure if it was cleaned. very hard to tell.

MS 63 or 64. PCGS is pretty tough on dollars, especially in the old holders, so more likely a 63. However, I would not argue with 64. Very nice coin, and a tougher date as well. ~Jim

I posted this one because I think PCGS undergraded it, the slab says MS61.

They were much harder on them in good old days. It's at least a 63 now (in my humble opinion).

I would grade it MS62, because I can't see the cheek. The mark you're describing sounds like die crack.
