F/VF, details, die 2, looks like an old cleaning. Still a nice coin. $600-800?

I will guess EF-40 details. Something about the surfaces looks off but I am not sure what.

D0ubl3Eagle nailed it! very impressive grading skills. he gets the best grader of the day award. I would not have thought it would have got this grade due to the obverse wear. this coin is for sale on ebay at $1985

Nice job. I do remember these tend to be very weakly struck

Came quite close, the only difference being I thought it was a problem coin and ANACS did not. I remember reading something(forgot who wrote it and if it was an article or forum post) a while ago, which I think said this was one of the exceptions to "the obverse carries the grade" rule. I based my guess more on the reverse than the obverse.

I have to disagree with ANACS on this one. While the 22D's are well known for late die states, the obverse shows no cheek/jaw separation, which - while often weak on these, should be not be completely flat. Because the obverse dies were so often grossly over-used, most graders primarily rely on the reverse for guaging wear. Even the reverse wear indicates a VF coin. I think NGC or PCGS would grade this VF-25/30 at best. Just MHO.

I also, believe this was graded incorrectly. To me the obverse does not appear to be from a weak strike, it appears to be wear across all of the high points. although the reverse makes the grade, as stated, wear of this nature must be taken into consideration. to me...no more than VF35 due to this this was a fun one to see the comments and grades.
