Debated on this one but pulled the trigger anyway. Hard to find a decent Augustus that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. The planchet crack bothered me but the coin has some decent detail remaining.

Augustus. 27 B.C.- 14 A.D., AS (27 mm, 9.81 g, 6 h). Rome, 16 B.C. C. Gallius Lupercus, moneyer. Bare head of Augustus right / Legend around large S C. RIC 379

I know exactly where you got that coin at. I was looking at it but decided not to get it. Nice coin, even with the flan cracks.

I actually find the cracks interesting--it must have been a brittle flan to begin with?

I like em 'cracked'. A very good indicator of being genuine too ! I believe from some things I have read that while cracks are usually attributed to impurities in the alloy (esp. late Empire) they are also common when the metal was being recycled. The history of the Republic melted down and struck anew by Augustus Caesar

Wasn't sure if the crack was looked at negatively by the ancient collectors.
Gil-galad I'm sure you do know where it came from, it was you that turned me on to VCoins.

The one reason why I knew where it came from is because I've been looking for a Augustus moneyer series As. Just like at other places, there are so many coins that you can't keep track of them all. lol
