I've noticed some dragging on s few letters and #'s here in a direction towards 7 PM.

Can someone here explain as to possibly what would make this happen ..? Is it a known variety..?

Thanks for any comments...

Amazing condition DEVLEC...nice. I always liked the looks of these Queen Victoria one cents. Hopefully someone can help you with this.

Thanks for the compliment on this cent and bumping it back up here.

This must be an odd effect to see on a coin as no one has commented on it and I've never really noticed it much before.

Besides the drag on the 0 in ONE, you can easily see the drag on the C and top of the T in CENT. The 1 has a drag or re-cut in it and the left 0 in the date has a large drag at it's top. The bottom has a small die crack from the bottom leaf,..through the smallish "H" and then on through to the edge of the rim.

I was hoping that others here had seen some of the same.

Could it be something trapped by the lacquer? Hard to tell from the pics if it's in the metal. How could a coin with such distracting marks reach 64?
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

A failing or wearing die could be the cause here.

It's in the metal and not in the lacquer and easily seen when handling the piece. The "1" is very interesting here.

My T-1 1859 cent is graded MS 62 and it's dies are in their death throws for that variety.

A frosty original piece whether 62,63,64,..or 65 should always be graded by wear or contacts,... and a loose die or damaged piece of the die should not play much of a factor,..but be noted as a "variety" of one type or another,..IMHO...

Look at the 49 hoof for example,..it's in all grades too.
....and who would want a cracked or aging die anyway.?..well it seems that a lot of collectors do...
