I received a dozen Morgan dollars from an estate and some appear to be in very good condition. I see on ebay it can make a huge value difference. How do I know if worth grading and what is cost to grade? Any help would be appeciated.

you need to look at the year and mintmark on all the coins. That can make a huge difference in value. Common dates are usually not worth much more than 30 or 35 unless they are in mint condition. Once you find out this info you can look up retail values at sites like numismedia price guide on NGC website. As far as grading them goes you can get a photograde guide if you google how to grade Morgans. It would help you get started. Unless they are extremely high grade common years they would not be worth grading. Any CC mint would be something to look for. Hope this helps. Jerry

If you post a list of the dates and mint marks, members here could certainly tell you which ones are the best. You may wish to check numismedia for a general price guide.

Sending a coin into NGC, ANACS or PCGS, should be based on the value of the coin. If you have a common circulated Morgan dollar, it would not be worth the expense to have it graded. Depending on what service you use, it could cost in the $20 to $30 dollar range to have it slabbed, so it would not be cost effective, for a coin that only has a value of $25 to $30.

As suggested, try to determine if you have high grade, better or rare date coin(s), if you do, they might be the ones you may want to send in.

Edit .. I forgot to CCF

If you can get some decent pictures of them, just post them in our Classic US Coin Grading Forum, one coin per topic and you'll get a fairly good idea of grade and value.
